During the special event 10th Anniversary Memorial Fest! Overlap Bunko All-Star Gathering Special Night Dream Fes, it was announced that The Unwanted Undead Adventurer (Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha), the anime adaptation of Yuu Okano’s light novel series, will receive a second season. The announcement was accompanied by a commemorative illustration drawn by Jaian, the original character designer of the series.
Currently, no details have been provided regarding the release date for this sequel, nor has it been confirmed whether the cast will reprise their roles beyond the participation of Ryota Suzuki and Ikumi Hasegawa, who were special guests at the announcement event.
Voice Cast
- Ryōta Suzuki as Rentt Faina, known for his role as Yu Ishigami in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
- Mikako Komatsu as Lorrane Vivie, recognized for voicing Maki Zenin in Jujutsu Kaisen.

The first season premiered on January 8 on AT-X, Tokyo MX, and Sun TV, followed by its broadcast on BS NTV on January 9. Additionally, the series was streamed in Japan via dAnime Store and Netflix starting January 5. Crunchyroll provided streaming outside Japan.

The music for the first season featured opening theme “Immortal” by JUVENILE and ending theme “Keep Your Fire Burning” by Mao Abe. It has not yet been confirmed whether these artists will return for the second season.
Light Novel and Manga
The light novel series began serialization in 2016 on the Shosetsuka ni Narou website. OVERLAP started publishing the physical editions in October 2017, featuring illustrations by Jaian. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Haiji Nakasone, debuted in November 2017 on the Comic Gardo website. To date, the franchise has over ten volumes in print and has gained popularity among fans of the isekai and fantasy adventure genres.
Synopsis of The Unwanted Undead Adventurer
Rentt Faina, a 25-year-old adventurer, has spent a decade hunting low-level monsters. His life takes an abrupt turn when he discovers an uncharted path in the Moon Reflection Labyrinth, where he encounters a legendary dragon that devours him entirely.
Instead of dying, Rentt awakens as a skeleton. Armed with only his sword, a few tools, and his new skeletal form, he sets out on a journey to achieve Existential Evolution, a means to reclaim his human appearance. However, the labyrinth’s dangers threaten to condemn him to eternal death—or “undeath”—if he cannot escape its depths.
