League of Legends Will Have More Animated Series

The showrunner of Arcane, Christian Linke, has officially confirmed that three new television series based on the universe of League of Legends are in production. Following the conclusion of Arcane‘s second season, which spectacularly wrapped up Piltover’s story, Riot Games is ready to expand its cinematic universe into new regions of the vast world of Runeterra.

In a recent Twitch interview with streamer Necrit94, Linke revealed that Riot Games’ upcoming television projects have already been in development for about a year. He also stated that the company has ambitious plans to continue telling both new and interconnected stories. “We are far from done building a series of projects to tell new stories and continue others,” the co-creator declared.

Among the most significant revelations, Linke confirmed that the three new series will be set in Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia, three of the most iconic regions in League of Legends. This marks a significant shift from Arcane, which focused exclusively on Piltover and Zaun. The decision to move the narrative to these new settings promises to introduce unseen champions and explore cultures, conflicts, and traditions that are key pieces of the game’s lore.

With the richness of League of Legends‘ storytelling, these three regions offer a wide range of possibilities:

  • Noxus is known for its expansionist and ruthless nature, where champions like Darius, Swain, and Riven have stood out. A series set here could explore themes of war, power, and betrayal.
  • Ionia, in contrast, is a land of spiritual balance and martial arts, which could delve into the struggle between tradition and modernity, with characters such as Irelia, Yasuo, and Akali.
  • Demacia is a kingdom of honor and justice but with a backdrop of oppression and dark secrets. A series based in this region could focus on social and political tensions, as well as connections to champions like Lux, Garen, and Sylas.

The announcement of these new series not only reinforces Riot Games’ commitment to developing its narrative universe but also underscores the success of Arcane as a pioneer in expanding this world beyond the video game. The series format allows for deeper exploration of stories, which has led Arcane to become one of the most critically acclaimed animated productions in recent years.

The transition to Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia also opens the door to greater creative freedom, as these regions have unique characteristics that can be developed without the limitations of returning to Piltover. Additionally, it allows fans to discover a greater variety of champions and understand the relationships connecting every corner of Runeterra.

On social media, fans have enthusiastically welcomed the news, speculating about which champions might appear and how Riot will tackle the different narrative styles needed to represent each region. Many have expressed their desire to see epic conflicts and memorable moments that enrich the game’s lore (or even change it entirely).
